Prince Edward Island to the coast of Maine
08/09/2019 - The tour is over. Susan joined us - Trish picked her up at the airport. She will ride with Trish and Bev in her RV, and they are 'tagging along' with our tour across the middle of the U.S. We are happy to have Susan join us.. and that makes 4 women and only one poor man! Last night, we had an additional dinner out and some of the tour group joined us. Here are some of them (Trish is on the left in pink, Susan is on the right, across from Trish).
Today we leave Marco Polo Land Campground in P.E.I. and begin our journey home. As we were beginning to leave the campground, we were met up with Ed and Michelle; and Bill and Cathy (our Wagonmasters), to say one more 'goodbye'. Trish, Bev, and Susan left the campground about 30 minutes ahead of us. We left P.E.I and drove over a 7.5 mile bridge to New Brunswick.
We drove 286 miles to St. Martins in New Brunswick and camped at Century Farms Family Campground, on the Fundy Bay. The campground was very nice, but the weather wasn't--fog and threatening rain.
I fixed spinach salad and cold chicken for dinner. We all played cards and called it a night. We all needed a rest from the tour.
08/10/2019 - It thundered and pouring rain during the night and in the morning. When it broke up a little, Tom took the dogs for a walk. We had a lazy day. Trish, Susan and I went out for a couple of items at the grocery store, and stopped at a couple of souvenir stores. Trish fixed perogies and sausage with onions for dinner. We played cards. I fixed brownies for dessert. We all went to bed early again.
08/11/2019 - A driving day (198 miles) for an overnight. After we got camp set up, we got in the Jeep and went to Bangor, Maine to see Stephen King's house - - - Yes, it was really where he and his family lives. There was no tour, of course, but we got some cool pictures of the front of the house and the gate.
Then we went shopping - PetSmart, Famous Footwear (I bought three pairs of Vionics), Dress Barn, and a grocery store. Then picked up Chinese Food for dinner. When we got back to the campground, we met up with Fran ad Marcia (from the tour). They had driven all the way from Prince Edward Island (about 500 miles) and were making an overnight stop. Go figure!
08/12/2019 - We are driving today to Old Orchard Beach in Maine at the Ne're Beach Campground. Tom and I have been to this campground before and remembered that it was a small campground with very tight spots, but the location was great - only a block to the beach, and a great dog park very close. All 4 girls went out looking for haircuts, manicures, and pedicures (we all needed a little personal time). But, alas, it was Monday and all the hair salons were closed. So we all went to a nail shop and got nails and toes done. It was great, and the shop we found was so accomodating. Tom said that he would go tommorrow. Trish BBQ'd hamburgers for dinner.
08/13/2019 - Trish, Susan, and I went to the So. Portland Mall for haircuts and shopping. We walked the whole mall. Tom did the laundry at camp. Dinner was leftover chinese dinner. Not much to report here.
08/14/2019 - All 5 of us took off for Kennebunkhport for sightseeing and good lunch. We drove through many nice neighborhoods, and spied the Bush family compound. But, I could not find the lighthouse that I remembered for our last trip here. So, I looked it up on my old blog (2015) of the "Big Trip", and found that it wasn't in Kennebunkport, but in Cape Neddick (about 26 miles away). The lighthouse is called the Nubble Lighthouse, and it is touted as being the most photographed lighthouse on the east coast. Everyone agreed that we should go there, so we took off south.
The summer traffic continued. It was expecially bad through Ogunquit. We finally made it to the lighthouse and visited the gift shop. I was looking for Bill Thompson, an artist that painted a really nice picture of the lighthouse, and signed them with your name and date on a picture if you buy one. Another disappointment - Bill was not here today. Then we drove up to the tourist shopping area. The traffic was horrendous, and the parking even worse! We went around the block and through parking lots several times before we finally found a spot on the street. This is the peak of the summer season, and the people were out in mass. We wandered through many shops in town, and sampled the local salt water taffy. Everyone picked up a few small items to bring home.
Then we headed south about 2.5 miles to the Lobster Cove for lunch. Tom and I were here in 2015 also. We both had the Lobster Pie: a pound of shelled lobster meat, covered with lobster bisque and buttered crumbles, then baked. It was just as good as the last time. Here it is!
Everyone else enjoyed their meals as much as we did (Susan had Lobster Mac and Cheese).
We drove back to the campground in Orchard, after a few turn arounds trying to get to the Maine Turnpike. We unloaded, and Trish and Susan took off to scout out the beach. Tom took the dogs out to the dog park. No dinner for any of us, as we had such a big lunch. Tommorrow is a driving day.
